A sign of the demographic dynamism of Seine-et-Marne, whose population (1.4 million inhabitants) has more than doubled since the 1960s, the diocese of Meaux is carrying out another church construction project. In Chelles, the second most populated city in the department (55,000 inhabitants), which is on the route of the Grand Paris Express (line 16), the Sainte-Bathilde church, which can accommodate up to 800 people, must come out of the ground at the end of 2024. The other two churches in the city had become too small. The cost of the project is estimated at nine million euros. Half of this financing is supported by the diocese of Meaux. The Chantiers du cardinal are making a contribution of one million euros.
