The state boost for the purchase of new electric or non-electric bicycles was to end at the end of the year. Finally, the aid will be extended in 2023: good news for the French who were planning to invest in a bicycle, and who were perhaps waiting for part of their thirteenth month or end-of-year bonuses to take the step. Clément Beaune, Minister Delegate for Transport, announced to our colleagues to France infoFriday, September 23, that purchase aid will continue well into 2023.
The bicycle plan, “endowed with 250 million euros in 2023”, announced by Matignon on Tuesday September 20, will therefore be used to finance infrastructure and secure parking, but also aid to individuals in their purchase of new electric or non-electric bicycles, because there is “an appetite for cycling”, noted the minister.

The different types of help you can ask for
In concrete terms, you can benefit from a bonus for the purchase of a new non-electric bicycle which can go up to 150 euros, fixed at 40% of the price, if your tax income per share is less than or equal to 6,300 euros, or if you are disabled. If you buy a new electrically assisted bicycle, you will be able to benefit from assistance, however reserved, for the majority, for people with low tax reference income, and for people with disabilities. You can thus receive a maximum of 400 euros, or 40% of the purchase price, provided that your reference tax income per unit is below 6,300 euros, or if you are disabled. The “bonus other bikes” bonus, allowing in particular to finance cargo bikes, folding or adapted bikes, electric or not, can reach 2,000 euros, capped at 40% of the price of the bike, under the same conditions.
The conversion bonus, a State scheme which provides aid for the purchase of an electric bicycle in exchange for the scrapping of a petrol or diesel vehicle, can be requested by each person in the home. It can go up to 1,500 euros, whatever your level of income, within the limit of 40% of the purchase price, and goes up to 3,000 euros for low-income households and people with disabilities. Also note the “other bicycle bonus” which applies to folding bicycles, set at 1,000 euros within the limit of 40% of the cost of the bicycle, under the same conditions of resources as those requested for other state aid. To find out if you are eligible for the various bicycle bonuses, go to the website service-public.fr. And do not hesitate to also ask for the aid offered by the regions, communes and municipalities which are sometimes not conditional on resources and which can significantly reduce the bill.
