(AOF) – Voltalia is launching the construction of a new complex of five small solar power plants (projects called “Garrido”) in Portugal. The set will include the following sites: Alcochete, with a capacity of 23.8 megawatts; Pinhal Novo with a capacity of 11.8 megawatts; Antuzede with a capacity of 11.4 megawatts; Vale Serrao with a capacity of 2.4 megawatts, and Oliveira de Frades with a capacity of 1.2 megawatts.
The electricity will be sold through very long-term sales contracts signed with companies that will consume the electricity (corporate PPA). They will thus green their energy consumption, preventing the emission of more than 46,685 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere each year.
The Garrido projects, totaling a capacity of 50.6 megawatts, also respond to the concerns of European countries facing high energy price inflation and possible energy rationing for large industrial consumers.
Voltalia now has a capacity in operation or under construction of 71 megawatts in Portugal, including its subsidiary Helexia, a specialist in on-site energy production and energy efficiency. Voltalia is also developing a 33 megawatt floating solar project located near the Cabril dam, in Serta, won in April 20221.
“In the context of tensions on energy prices in Europe, the launch of the construction of new projects in Portugal makes it possible to support the production of renewable and competitive electricity. Portugal is constantly improving the share of renewable energies in the country’s energy consumption, with more than 65% of the electricity consumed in the country coming from renewable energies. An example to follow!”, declared Sébastien Clerc, CEO of Voltalia.
