This is the latest scam in sight. The one with the Crit’Air sticker. A journalist from the editorial staff of Capital received a fraudulent SMS on Wednesday September 21 inviting them to collect a Crit’Air sticker, this secure sticker, to stick on the windshield of the vehicle, which indicates its environmental class. In the message received, the issuer indicates: “CRIT’AIR: Our agents have found that you did not have the regulatory sticker, please retrieve it by completing the form below.” A link is then proposed.
If you click on the link (see screenshot), you land on a page that looks like two drops of water to an official site, described as “the official site of the Crit’Air sticker”. Same logo, header of the French Republic, reference to sites of public life or European… it has everything to mislead users. But this is obviously a fake. Because if the crooks are more and more gifted to try to deceive you (no spelling mistake, simple ergonomics, official logos, etc.), on the other hand, one thing must challenge you: the URL. In this specific case, the site is called “certificats-critairs.com”.

The ministry never sends text messages
A simple search on the web reveals that the official site of the Crit’Air sticker is called certificat-air.gouv.fr. It is published by the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion, which is not indicated on the lure. Moreover, on its home page, it is asked to be careful in the face of scams, because “the official Crit’Air site of the ministry does not send SMS messages to users to buy vignettes. Be vigilant and ensure sure you are on the correct address of the official website”.
Taking the deception further, Capital realized that scammers ask you to fill in information in order to “order”. On another page, you must fill in your license plate, then you arrive on another page which asks you to fill in your personal details, then finally your bank details in order to pay for your sticker at the price of 2.95 €. In addition to the price which is wrong, since on the official site the sticker costs 3.11 € as well as 0.59 € postage, the scammers especially want to take control of your bank account afterwards. If you disclose your credit card number, the trap closes.
For the past few days, this type of scam has been circulating a lot, with different sites. The Ministry of Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion responded to Numerama that, when he is “informed of malicious sites, these sites are then blocked and a report can also be made to the public prosecutor”. The only caution is in order in this kind of case. Also take a step back when you receive these kinds of messages. For example, if you already have a Crit’Air sticker, you cannot be asked for it again.
